The Lord is Still Looking for Faith and Action

In Chapter 13 of the book of Numbers, 10 of the 12 spies gave a bad report to Moses concerning the land that the Lord promised to give them.  It was a very scary place.  These tribes were similar to Isis today, very cruel barbarians.  There were also giants in the land.  We would be afraid too!  But God had made a covenant with Abram, spoke and did mighty miracles through Moses, drowned the Egyptian army, and He was leading the people by day and by night. Yet, they CHOSE to focus on the situation and not on what the Lord had said and was doing right in front of them.  They wanted to return to slavery!  We too are daily hearing bad reports in these trying times.  Yes, it is a difficult time for many people!  Yes, the future seems very uncertain for all of us!  But where is your focus?  On the situation or on God and His promises and what He is doing right in front of us?  Many, many people are searching for answers in these crazy and confusing days.  The world may be more open to the Gospel now than ever before.  More people are praying to God than in all of history.   In response, the Holy Spirit is doing amazing things all over the world right now.  Let’s join Him!

In Numbers 14:5-9, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, and Caleb, in faith, focused and believed in the Lord.  As a result of their faith and action, they are still talked about today.  Aaron began the priesthood.  God used Moses to perform many great signs and wonders.  Joshua conquered much of the Promised Land.  Caleb, still strong at 85, received God’s inheritance of land.  Today in the midst of the pandemic, the Lord is looking for those who will in faith, take action and do great things for Him.  Incredibly, the crowd mentality, was to stone them.  But the Lord showed up to save those who believed in what He said and what He was doing.

In Numbers 14:11, you can see His frustration and anger with His people.  Jesus faced the exact same crowd mentality in John 10:25,32,38.  Stone Him!  As we witness the rioting, burning and looting of innocent people's property in our country now, we can see this crowd mentality is still with us.  Stay away from these crowds!  Focus on God and His Word and His promises and take action.  To conquer the land seemed like an impossible and terrifying thing to do, but the Lord would take no excuses.  In Numbers 14:32,33 the Lord said that they doubted His promises, grumbled and complained, would die in the wilderness and their children would suffer for their unfaithfulness.  In contrast, in vs.30, the Lord said Joshua and Caleb would enter the Promised Land that He swore to give them.  God knows our heart and He sees what we are doing in this time of crisis.  The Lord will reward us for our faith and action.

So what do we do now with our faith?  What action can we take?  Here are some suggestions. Focus on God and His Kingdom. Let's spend more time than usual praying and listening for the Holy Spirit to speak and move on our heart.  Read His Word and meditate on it.  Reach out to those that He puts on our hearts with a call, text, card or email.  Take advantage of the technology we have today!  Join or start Zoom meetings.  We can do Bible studies, pray, fellowship, worship, and do book studies this way with people from many different places at the same time. Did you know that there are meetings happening online with thousands of people that pray, worship, and fellowship together?  Awesome!  Do some service projects.  There are many and various needs out there now.  Look for opportunities.  Be strategic in some of your giving to ministries that do satellite broadcasting. They are having a tremendous response right now to their various programs.  God is always at work around us.  Our God’s plan is not affected by a pandemic, riots or financial difficulties!

Here at TWC we are doing a book study on Tuesday night at 6:30 using the book Finding Simplicity by Amber Parker. On one night we had people joining us from California, Pennsylvania, and Iowa.  It was great! We do have a prayer meeting on Thursday night at 7.  It is a time of fellowship, checking on each other, and prayer.  Sunday morning at 8:45 we have an interactive time of worship, Bible study and some prayer to finish.  Recently, we had a potato giveaway in the parking lot.  500 10 lb. bags of potatoes, canned vegetables, wipes and some toys were given away.  It was a good time of giving and ministering to the community.  So please join us in some of these activities as we move forward in these days.  We will get through this.  How much better it is to do it with others!

God Bless You, Pastor John
