Psalm 2

Please read Psalm 2 this week.
As we look at the world today, we see that the nations are in an uproar against God and His laws. Psalm 2 is just as relevant today as when it was written. It is best broken down into four sections.
1. The nations are in an uproar.
2. The Lord laughs and scoffs at them.
3. The Son proclaims the decree.
4. God gives advice and warning to the rulers.

Verses 1-3 the nations are in an uproar. The picture here is of a horse snorting and chomping at the bit to go into battle. This is an act of aggression and war against God. The psalmist says " this is a vain thing" and it certainly is! You cannot defeat God. The king and rulers take their stand and counsel together against God and Jesus His Anointed. "Let us tear their fetters apart and cast away their cords from us." This is not just an emotional response but a stand and a plan against Him and His laws. Away with them! These terms imply slavery. In reality, God's laws produce freedom for society. The things we see happening now will never produce peace. The world is spinning out of control.

Verses 4-6. In response, God in heaven laughs and scoffs at them. How foolish and arrogant man is! We are nothing compared to God. He is beyond our comprehension. He sees what is to come when He speaks to them in His anger and terrifies them in His fury. I love verse 6! As for me, I have consecrated My King upon Zion, My holy mountain. Puny men, you can rage and plan all you want. Jesus is already king of kings and Lord of lords. It is done. He will rule and reign on earth. Hallelujah!

Verses 7-9. Jesus speaks. I will tell of God's decree for Me. He said You are My Son. Ask Me for the nations and the earth as your inheritance. You will break and shatter them. These kings and rulers will be broken beyond repair.

Verses 10-12. God gives them advice and a warning. Worship the Lord with reverence and rejoice with trembling. Do homage to the Son before He gets angry and you perish. This means to honor Jesus in public before others. They must come to Him with a pure repentant heart! No faking it. Then a promise. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him! Even after their raging against Him, He still reaches out and reasons with them. He extends them grace and mercy. Wonderful!

As we see things getting worse and worse as time goes on remember, we always have hope! God is in control, Jesus is Lord, and The Holy Spirit is our comforter and teacher. The devil and the world can never take it away from us. Be encouraged! God is on our side. He will never leave us or forsake us. If you are searching for hope and peace in these times of despair, God is there. Even if you have been in rebellion against God and His Ways, He is reaching out to you with grace and mercy. Trust Him today as your Savior and your Lord. Jesus still saves!
