The Light Shines in the Darkness

JOHN 1:14

The apostle John is making the case that Jesus is God and created all things with God and that He also came to earth as one of us. This is what we just celebrated at Christmas. Jesus came to earth and dwelt among us. He came as a light in this dark world. Jesus came to redeem us and to be the light that enlightens every man. We can then carry His light in us to those around us and change this world. Then like John the Baptist, our lives will bear witness of Him.

John 1:1 Jesus the Word was with God in the beginning. The Greek here is hard to translate into English. Face to face is close. They used their attributes or abilities together for the benefit of others. Reciprocated. So, the Word was God.

2 He was in the beginning with God. John is making it clear that Jesus was separate from God and is God.

3 All things came into being through Him. He created all things with God.

4 Jesus said I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. This is light to mankind.

5 The light shines in the darkness, the darkness did not comprehend it. Why not? John 3:19-21. In a sense, Jesus is still creating. He is creating new creatures. As a new creature, God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit work through us to dispel the darkness in this world. Matthew 5:14-16. LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE! The darker this world becomes, the brighter our light will shine. We can destroy the works of the devil. 1st John 3:7,8.

6 John was sent from God. God sent John, the Holy Spirit filled him, and he witnessed for Jesus. John 3:30, this is the Christian life. Is Jesus increasing in your life? The Holy Spirit wants to shape and mold you to be more like Jesus. Ask Him to help you! Spend time with Him.

7,8 He came as a witness of the light.

9 Jesus would enlighten all men.

10,11 His own did not know Him or receive Him. How is this possible? Our sin nature and the devil.

12,13 But, if we do receive Him it gives us the right to become children of God. We are born again. John 3:3. Jesus lays hold of the ones that receive Him for redemption and for you to do His will for your life. This builds the Kingdom and shines light in the darkness.

14 This Word in verse one became a human and dwelt or tabernacled among us. We beheld His glory. The transfiguration. God spoke to the disciples there. Grace and truth. We are born again by the grace of God and the Holy Spirit.

15 John bore witness of Him. He existed before me. He is God.

16 Of His fulness we have received. A small but mighty verse. He is fully God. He gave Himself up for us. Fellowship with Him. The Holy Spirit. Redemption. Power. Joy. Hope. A future. We receive some of this fulness through our brothers and sisters in the Lord. It overflows through us to others. And grace upon grace. Amazing grace that knows no bounds or end.

17 The Law we could not keep to be right with God. Grace and truth through Jesus. Again, I am the Way, the Truth, the Life.

18 We cannot see God as humans here on earth. Jesus explained God. If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father, Jesus said I and the Father are one. I only do what I see the Father doing. My food is to do the will of the Father. I am in the Father and the Father is in Me, I am the true vine and My Father is the vinedresser, Before Abraham was I Am!
