More Examples of Obedience

I was going to start on the obedience of Jesus. Jesus's obedience was the ultimate example for us of following God. But then I thought we should take a quick look at these examples before we move on. They are well worth looking at!

2nd Chronicles 17:1-11

3,4 The Lord was with him.

5 So the Lord established him.

6 He took great pride in the ways of the Lord. The Lord will do these things for us in our obedience to Him.

9 They taught the book of the law. Wouldn't be wonderful if the rulers around the earth sent leaders out to teach the Word of God?

10,11 The dread of the Lord was on the kingdoms. Philistines and Arabs brought tribute. God's favor was on king Jehoshaphat, even with the enemies around him.

2nd Chronicles 26:5 As long as he sought the Lord, God prospered him. This has always been one of my favorite verses!

2nd Chronicles 27:6 Jotham became mighty.

2nd Chronicles 31:21 He did with all his heart and prospered. 2nd Chronicles is a great study on obedience and disobedience and the effects of them.

Esther 3:5,6 Haman was filled with rage and sought to destroy all the Jews. Haman was a forerunner of Hitler and the antichrist.

4:13-17 And who knows whether you have attained royalty for such a time as this? Esther was put in a very strategic situation IF she was obedient. She was obedient and she saved her people and it changed history.

5:14 Have a gallows fifty cubits high made. This was to bring joy to Haman.

7:10  And they hanged Haman. The Lord used Esther and her obedience to bring this about. God is always ahead of our adversary.

Jeremiah 1:4-10,17 I have appointed you as a prophet. Do not be dismayed before them, lest I dismay you before them. A strong call from the Lord. Jeremiah had a very difficult and sad life serving the Lord, but he was obedient.

Isaiah 20:1-6 My servant Isaiah has gone naked and barefoot for three years. That's obedience! It was symbolic of the exile of Egypt and Cush.

Ezekiel 3:23-27 The Spirit entered me. You will be dumb. I will open your mouth only to speak My words to the people.

4:4-6 You shall bear their iniquity. 390 days on his left side for Israel and 40 days on his right side for Judah. This is great obedience. Again very symbolic.

Hosea 1:1-3 Go, take a wife of harlotry. Have children of harlotry. What obedience! Can you imagine what the people were saying about Hosea? Go and commit adultery by marrying a harlot! Do you think that was easy? You can be sure he was " the talk of the town!"

3:1,2 Go again! So I bought her for myself. Gomer left Hosea and went back to her profession. So Hosea went and bought her back. What a scene! He loved her enough after being hurt and abandoned to publicly go and pay money for her. This is symbolic of the Lord's heart towards His people. The Lord chose Hosea to feel the hurt and anguish that He felt when His people left Him to commit adultery with other gods. This is real obedience!

                                THINGS TO CONSIDER

Is the Lord blessing you and establishing you as you are obedient to Him?

Do you have His favor with others around you?

Are you in a strategic position where your obedience to the Lord will have a great impact on others and even your world?

Has the Lord asked you to do something that doesn't make sense or would be very humiliating to do?

Jesus experienced all these things in His perfect obedience to God.

It was symbolic that Hosea loved and married a sinful woman and she broke his heart. We turned to other "gods" and broke the Lord's heart. So He came and bought us back with His precious blood and unbelievable sacrifice. Have you responded to this amazing love of the Lord? You can do so today. Be obedient and let Him buy you back! He has already fully paid the price for you. With a grateful heart accept Jesus as your Savior and Lord.
