The Power of Obedience
In these uncertain and troubling times, it is good to know that the Lord Jesus is still building God's Kingdom. He is still looking for faithful believers to let Him in their boat and to launch out into the deep in spite of what we have done or what we think is the right time to do something. His directions are always right and always fruitful. He is looking for obedience. IT IS POWERFUL!
Luke 5:1-11
1 The crowds were listening to the Word teach the word of God.
2 Do you have something Jesus can use for ministry?
3 He used Simons boat. Jesus had no possessions. He made wonderful use of what people offered Him. Matthew 14:17,18. Matthew 15:34.
4 Put out or Go! Who is in charge here? Jesus. Into the deep. We are not going to catch fish standing on the shore or playing in the shallows. Can we see all the fish that are ready to be caught? No. Does Jesus and the Holy Spirit see them? Yes! They know where you need to be fishing. Have you let Jesus in your boat? He will never lead you in the wrong direction.
5 for a catch? We can imagine a few things Peter may have been thinking. A carpenter telling a fisherman how to fish? Hey, Jesus we just fished all night and didn't catch a thing. Now the sun is up and it's getting warm, it's not the right time to fish. Master. A good place to start is calling Jesus Master. BUT, at your bidding, I will. Obedience in place of his experience and thinking. Did Jesus know they didn't catch any fish? Yes. Have you ever failed at something? Have you come up empty in your own efforts? That is NOT what the Lord focuses on! He looks at your heart and His plan for you and the Kingdom. He is looking for obedience.
6 Was this the right time to fish? Not according to the fisherman. Did Peter want to do this? No. How was the catch? Huge! More than they could handle or even the net could handle. OBEDIENCE IS POWERFUL! Is Jesus calling you to do something right now in these strange times? Be obedient!
7 When you have Jesus in the boat things happen and it will include others. This Is what the body of believers is for. To help and work together in our calling and obedience to the Lord. Who's timing was right? Jesus!
8 There is no pride in His presence. But there is conviction. Isaiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, and John were overwhelmed in His presence.
9 This should not have happened. The carpenter was a pretty good fisherman after all.
10 Okay, what is Jesus doing here? These are some of the men he is going to build His church with. The life-changing, world-changing, supernatural church. Jesus gave them a miracle, a lesson, and a great example of what they would now be doing with their lives. Do you think they believed in Jesus and that they would become fishers of men? Yes. Did He build their confidence? You bet! Now, does He want to build yours? Will you let Him? Even if the conditions and timing aren't right? Even if you have to leave your comfort zone on the shore or in the shallows?
11 They left everything and followed Him. The boats which was their way of life. The fish which was food and money, a large amount of money! Their focus went from fish to Jesus, fish to people, fish to the Kingdom.
Things To Consider
Do you have something Jesus can use for His purpose?
Is Jesus telling you to put out into the deep? Have you been obedient?
Are you standing on the shore waiting for " the right time?" It's always the right time when Jesus is in the boat giving directions.
Do you need a new focus? Do you want a focus on things that are eternal? Come to Jesus today! He is waiting to get into your boat and lead you to an abundant life.
